A Local's Guide to Duluth Neighborhoods
Duluth stretches about 26 miles along Lake Superior, and every part of town has its own feel. Whether you want lake views, a short walk to campus, or room to spread out, here's a quick local's tour to help you narrow your search.
Lakeside and Lester Park
Quiet, tree-lined streets, classic homes, and easy access to Lester Park's trails and the Lakewalk. Families love the walkable feel and the neighborhood parks. Homes here tend to hold their value well.
Congdon Park
Known for its historic homes and the wooded Tischer Creek trail that runs through the neighborhood. Many houses date to the early 1900s, with character details you won't find in newer builds.
Hunters Park and Woodland
A little farther up the hill, with larger lots, mature trees and a mix of mid-century and newer homes. It's a popular choice for buyers who want space while staying close to UMD and the east-side shops.
Chester Park and the UMD area
Close to the University of Minnesota Duluth and St. Scholastica, with a mix of owner-occupied homes and rentals. It's a common stop for investors and for anyone who wants a short commute to campus.
East Hillside and Central Hillside
Steps from downtown, with some of the best lake views in the city. You'll find historic homes, duplexes and fourplexes, which makes these neighborhoods popular with first-time buyers and investors alike.
Downtown and Canal Park
Condos and lofts near restaurants, breweries, the Lakewalk and the Aerial Lift Bridge. A great fit if you want walkability and low-maintenance living.
Park Point
Life on the sandbar: beach access, lake breezes, and a true one-of-a-kind setting. Inventory is limited, so buyers interested in Park Point should be ready to move quickly.
Duluth Heights and Piedmont
Up over the hill, near shopping, the Miller Hill area and easy highway access. Many homes here are newer, with more space and garages, at prices that often stretch your budget further.
Lincoln Park, West Duluth and Spirit Valley
Lincoln Park's Craft District has become a destination for food and makers, and West Duluth is close to Spirit Mountain, the Western Waterfront Trail and miles of mountain biking. These neighborhoods offer solid value and a strong sense of community.
Morgan Park, Gary and Fond du Lac
On the far west end, with quiet streets, river access and a small-town feel within city limits. A good fit for buyers who want space and a slower pace.
